Alco Biofuel catches CO2 from its bioethanol fermentation for valorisation in food industry
Alco Biofuel has started the installation of 4 CO2 storage tanks at its bioethanol plant in the port of Ghent. The tanks are 30m in height, weigh 68 tons and can contain up to 300 000 L of liquid CO2 (-20 °C, 20 bar). This investment of € 15 million enables to catch 100 000 ton CO2 a year which will be used by Messer and Ijsfabriek Strombeek in food industry (e.g. soft drinks, drinking water cleaning, waste water cleaning. It is nice implementation of waste valorisation at the port of Ghent.
