Workshop on biobased materials
Biobased Materials refer to materials that are (partly) made from renewable biological components. An increased emphasis on utilising more natural or biobased materials and an increasing level of environmental awareness and concern being shown by the consumer these days over more environmentally friendly products, have led to continually emerging new biobased materials that may compete with conventional materials. Another important consideration are the disposal issues of these materials, with manufacturers having to take into account the 'end of life' of their products.
Biobased materials offer potential in this regards and are perceived as potentially greener alternatives than their petroleum-based counterparts. The opportunities to use them in existing and novel products are just beginning to be explored.
This workshop will give you an overview of possible biobased materials and their applications, advantages, disadvantages, hurdles or opportunities. In addition some SME’s will present to you their experience in developing their biobased materials. Finally you will get information on how to apply for free application tests at the Biopolymer and Natural Fibre application centers. The break and networking reception will allow you to connect with other stakeholders in this field.
SME’s, start-up’s and spin-out’s active in the field of biobased materials and interested in cooperating in this new emerging field. But also academics or local governments interested in learning more about these materials and their potential and open to support new developments in this field.
